Hungarian born, Csaba Antal studied set designing in Prague with Joseph Svoboda and continued his studies in Paris at the Sorbonne University. He then became resident artist at the Katona Jozsef Theatre in Budapest. He’s been a member of the Union of the Theatres of Europe since 1989.

Antal worked for theatres such as the Comédie Française, the Théâtre de l’Odeon of Paris, the Théâtre National de Strasbourg, the Piccolo Teatro di Milano, Teatro Argentina Roma, the Fondatio Teatre Lliure in Barcelona, Opernhaus Zürich, and in the Oper Bonn, Wiesbaden, Volsbühne Berlin, Baadisches Staatstheater of Karlsruhe.

His opera designs include « Electra » in Hungary, « Medea » in Greece, « Don Carlos, Noce de Figaro, La damnation de Faust » in Germany, « La Vie Parisienne » Therese filosophe in Paris and « Der Rosenkavalier, Rak’s progress, Peter Grimes » in Italy, Stifelio at Zürich.

Csaba Antal also taught at the Paris Conservatory, the University of Harvard in Boston, in Giessen (Germany) and in Salzburg, Austria, IUAV Venezia. He has received numerous awards. His work has been exhibited at the Prague Quadriennale, at the Triennale of Novi Sad in Serbia, at theFestival d’Avignon and at the Kunsthalle Budapest.
